This city was at one time rich and very important . The city lost its power around 1000 A.D., and remained inhabited long after. The first excavations were carried out by Desire Charnay in 1886, but it was not until 1987 when most of the serious work began. A couple of buildings remain buried, waiting for their secrets to be revealed. To the Maya this represents a portal to the ¨other world¨. The enormous mouth of the Witz Monster (entry to the underworld), complete with teeth, is awe-inspiring.
The main temple here is impressive, both in size and architecture. Its massive size of over 500 feet long and 200 feet wide easily makes it one of the largest structures ever excavated in the Yucatan. It is so big that one wonders how this could have been built without the aid of iron or the wheel. Ek Balam´s most striking temple is one with a huge ¨monster mouth¨.

Deep in the heart of the Quintana Roo jungle and only 24 miles from southwest of Tulum, approximately 2 1/2 south of Cancun is COBA, an archaeological site that dates from the Classis period. Unlike other Mayan sites in Quintana Roo, Coba was still occupied after the Spanish Conquest.. This incredible Site once occupied an area of almost 100 square kilometers (60 st. miles). The pyramid of Nohoch Mul-43 meters (130 ft.) high-is the tallest pre-Hispanic structure in the Yucatan peninsula. The main pyramids are the Coba Group, near the entrance, Las Pinturas, named because of the color still visible on the arches; the Macanxoc, located next to Macanxoc Lake; and Chumuc Mul, the main "stucco" pyramid which still contains its original color.

Aktunchen Caverns
Aktun Chen, which in the Maya language means “cave with sinkhole inside”, is a natural park extended 600 has. (2,400 acres) by virgin tropical jungle, and is located centrally in the Riviera Maya, between Akumal and Xel Ha. The main attraction on the park is a dry cave, 540 meters in length, which has thousands of stalactites and stalagmites, calcium carbonate columns, and tree roots which penetrate the limestone until they reach the subterranean water level. Inside this cave there is a beautiful subterranean “cenote”, or water filled sinkhole, of crystalline water with a vault saturated with stalactites. When you go out of the cave you can watch white tail deer, pheasant, wild turkeys, wild boar, parrots, monkeys, etc. All of these species of the region’s wild life can be observed in their natural habitat, without confinement. In this area you can find a Snack bar, where you could enjoy a delicious cold beer, a soda or a Mexican dish. This park also has a “serpentario”, snake observatory, the most complete of Mexico’s southeast, with 15 species typical of this region. The reception is located 3.5 km in from the highway, with a paved path, that allows very easy access for cars and buses. The tour in the cave is done with a guide who explains the cave’s formations and the Mayan historical and cultural purposes of these caverns.

We take the 9.00 a.m. ferry, arriving to Cozumel we walk until the Aldoras pier, more less 50 meters from the tax pier, where our boat will be waiting for us. After we set sail south, during the trip we offer our guest bottles of water, natural and with taste also fresh fruit and towels. During the tour we will visit tree reefs accompanied by a certified Scubacaribe guide, we will snorkel for about 45 to 60 min on each reef, this depending on the weather and sea conditions. Dare to take a step over the edge….!!! The pick up takes place in a deluxe A/C van, driving us to the adventure and starting the activities in an exclusive CENOTE near the ruins of Tulum. The cavern is located 3.5 km away from the main highway, so we have the opportunity to drive through lush and silent paths. As we cross these trails our guides offer explanations about the local flora and fauna, Mayan traditions and above all, they highlight the importance that our indigenous communities confer to the cenotes. Inside the cavern we practice the following activities: Rappel, Two Zip-lines, Snorkelling through an underground river. These activities are guided by qualified staff in extreme sports. Once the group is ready to leave the cenote, we serve a delicious Mexican buffet, surrounded by the sounds of nature under a typical palapa.
